No Camaro Convertible or Z/28… For Now

March 23, 2009

You read that right. GM is postponing the convertible version of the Camaro, as well as the 550 hp Z/28 version, according to Automotive News. This is in an effort to save money in the short run. I would guess that the convertible will make the 2011 model lineup in late 2010.

Production as begun. GM has 14,000 orders to fulfill before they will be lingering on lots for just anyone. We should start seeing production cars on the streets of Anytown USA in a couple of weeks.

Camaro Gets 29 MPG

March 17, 2009

That’s right… the EPA has rated the 2010 Camaro with a V-6 engine at 29 MPG Highway (18 MPG City), as reported by Automotive News. Remember, this is for the base Camaro… with 304 hp. The V-8 version of the Camaro is rated at 16/25 MPG city/highway.

Camaro On The Streets of Detriot

Waiting for the new Camaro?

Automotive News tells of how GM is letting employees test drive the cars in Detroit.

It should be in showrooms in April.

The Orange Box Install

March 14, 2009

I just picked up The Orange Box. This includes Half Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2 and Portal (it also includes some others, see screen shot below).

Well, I wanted to play it but that will have to wait a bit. Apparently, the install downloads the games from the Internet rather than install from the 2 DVDs that came in the orange box.

At this point I just assume wait for the install to finish, but I don’t like it.  At least I have a fast connection.

Slow Traffic (Outlook and Camaro Comments)

March 9, 2009

Well, it seems I am not doing a good job of blogging. I just checked my stats and I have had fewer then 600 visits per day for all but 1 day this month. I normally have right around 700 visits a day give or take a few.

With numbers close to 500 per day, that’s a drop in regular visits of almost 200 per day. This can only be attributable to one thing…

I am lazy.

O.K. That is a simple answer. Basically I have not had a lot to blog about. And letting a blog get stale is the worst thing you can do. I still get e-mails (or comments) almost every single day about Outlook 2000 and Vista. That’s a shame. Not that I don’t appreciate all the comments and questions, but my Outlook 2000 on Vista page was written almost two years ago.

Granted… the most searched for information on my Blog is for information on the new Camaro… which is due in showrooms this month. I have to tell you… expect markups from dealers.

This is good and bad. The markups will be two fold. Yes, dealers tend to mark up the price for a hot, new commodity. They were doing this on the V-8 version of the then new 1993 Camaro.

But I suspect they will do it to help there own bottom line as well. This is a problem. If they mark up the price of the V-6 Camaro they will drive away sales and GM cannot afford that. GM needs this car to get Chevrolet back on track. But it is not enough, and letting dealers play around with the price is only going to make matters worse.

We’ll see. I have not seen one on the road yet. Have you?

Missed Opportunity to Work Fast

March 9, 2009

It is Spring Break at my house. My wife is a teacher and her and the kids are home. This presents the opotunity for me to go into work very early. I arrived about 6:45 AM. I am starting a new project that is very large (about 12 weeks) today. I was looking forward to getting a lot of coding done before anyone came in to interupt me.

Well, best laid plans…

When I got in a co-worker e-mailed me a couple of small changes to a project I had checked out. That made me realize I checked out the code to fix a small problem. I had to get the two changes working and tested for change contol, so I could roll the changes out today.

By the time I did that we had another system go flakey and I am still monitoring that. Hopefully I should be coding the new application before lunch. Another co-worker came to me after our morning huddle to tease me. I said I would start coding the new project this morning. Well… the tease was because that’s what I said at Friday’s huddle.

Hopefully I will have a different thing to say at tomorrows huddle.

The Recession Hits Close to Home

March 4, 2009

The current state of the economy it is hitting closer and closer to home. My company had RIFs (Reduction In Force) last week, they froze salaries this week, and the final straw came today when they raised the price of sodas in the vending machines 25 cents.

Now you can no longer buy a soda for $1.00. Bottled soda costs $1.25. This is a traveshamockery. I will not conform to this. I told the executives of our company when they switched our cafeteria to vending machines that the most important thing was to keep bottled soda at $1.00. “That is the only subsidizing that matters,” I said.

Times are tough, and I will no longer buy sodas in our cafeteria.
