I wanted to get the ulimate Mac OSX screen capture from my Toshiba P105-9312 running OS X 10.4.4. Keep in mind I was never able to get any network access, so I had to load all software through CD. I installed Parallels Desktop 3.0 and built 2 virtual machines, 1 with Windows XP Professional and the other with Ubuntu 7.04. Without Internet access it was not worth it to have Firefox running on each, so I just used each OS’s calculator program. Here is the screen capture.

Remember… none of this is supposed to be possible. I love it!

You should try one of the newer versions. Uphuck’s iAtkOS S3 v2 works like a dream on my Acer Aspire 4730z. It has an Atheros wifi chip that was never supported because Apple didn’t use it on any of their machines, so there’s no driver… but apparently either that has changed, or someone on the dev team for Snow Leopard decided to give us OS X86′ers something nice, because there’s now support for almost every wireless and wired nic on the market. The only downside is I had to install a bunch of Kexts to get the built-in keyboard and track pad to work (ApplePS2Controller.kext) but I was able to do that with an external USB keyboard and mouse combo (gigaware from radioshack, el-cheapo, but it worked) and every screen capture tool I use shows a blank image (still can’t find a kext that works for my Intel GMA4500 vga card), but it’s 64 bit with PAE out-of-the-box, so my 4gb of ram was detected, and it detected my intel core2 duo cpus, no problem. I recently played around with a true macbook, and I can say hands-down, mine out-performs it no contest. The other upside was my license for my windows copy of Adobe Photoshop CS5 Extended worked for the OS X version as well, and there is no more thrilling experience that photo manipulation on Photoshop running in OS X.

(BTW, I found this page on a google search for ‘osx86 screen capture tools’)
